Woooo! We're back, baby!

The dialogue on this took forever to get just right. I had an idea for this scene in mind but the dialogue really went against the characters as they'd been established. It took a long damn time to adjust it to where the meaning of the scene was the same but the dialogue wasn't off.

Lesson: Word balloons are important, kids.

See you on Monday, where I hope I'll have some big news!

Ah, the Way of the Sword.
I think you did a great job on the dialogue. I really dig Roland's honesty, it's something akin to what one of my old martial arts instructors used to do to me -- "I'm going to hit you in the back of the head. Try to stop me -- you won't, but try."
Am I right to assume he is *much* older than he appears?
Zomburai 16th May 2014, 6:17 PM edit delete reply
You would be incorrect! ... sort of. He's literally wise beyond his years in the way of swordcraft... y'know, it's complicated. More about Roland's backstory is forthcoming in this chapter, I promise!

Also, your instructor sounds like the sort of awesome, lovable jackass I always wanted to have had I ever taken martial arts. :P

Oh wow, the dialog alone makes this page =D

I'm a Roland fan now, even his name is swashbuckle-worthy!

"Roland" is one of my very favorite names, so I wanted to give it to one of my very favorite characters! I'm glad he's won you over. o.ob

It truly works so very well, great dialog!

Thanks, Peter! :D

And hopefully I have everything ready in time for a Monday reveal!

He's either one point away from a date, or one point away from death. XD

It could happen! I believe. I believe in the possibility that Roland could become the first person ever decapitated by a shinai. :P

I do like the dialogue between Roland and Asuka... the hotdogging westerner and the stoic easterner... The seven to one verbiage was perfect as well! One wonders what trick Asuka will play on Roland to maintain parity of face while getting her desired result? I suppose it all boils down to whether she likes blonds. ; D
Zomburai 19th May 2014, 7:18 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, Asuka is very much into the whole brevity thing. I don't suspect she'd talk at all if she didn't have to. :P

This is one of my favorite pages in all of EverydayAbnormal. The trick he uses to get the point, his telling her that he's using her lack of guile against her, his prediction that he won't be able to beat her once she learns some guile... it all makes this a very memorable page.
