It's so tempting to make Russell shoot himself during the flashback, just to see the sort of reaction I'd get from everybody.

But that, of course, would violate the "no one comes back from the dead" rule so firmly in place in this comic.

Also, I'm sorry I haven't been answering comments in the comment thread more consistently the last few weeks! D: I've been mega-swamped. But I love reading them, so if there's something you want to say, don't be afraid to say it!

"Hmm, I'm kinda bored. Oh well, might as well commit suicide."

As a stand alone page with no other knowledge of the comic, this would be really funny~

Wait, didn't you just have a whole army of dudes come back from the dead in the last strip?

@Fubar: "... I mean, it should be fine. All the cool kids are doing it."

@Frosty: Oh, kind of like this? :I

@Ryan: ...yes. You might want to keep them in mind.

@Kristy: I don't think he's taking the shooting incident very well at all. D:

EDIT: Gah, this scene really is way too comical for this story. :I

Nah, it actually struck me as being very serious. We just kinda twisted it to make it funny down here. :B

Hey, if Excel can do it, why can't Russell?

@Kristy: Well, thanks for saying so, anyway. :P

@Skippy: *the Will of the Cosmos comes over, resurrects Ruthell*

I think A part of the reason why it was easy to twist this into something funny was there were a few elements I noticed that seemed to be missing. One thing that might have helped is showing one or two panels of him giving "treasured" items to someone he cared about or even saying goodbye to them. Also maybe if he looked a little less relaxed while lying in bed.
If you havn't watched this already, watch the movie Man on Fire they captured some of the symptons of suicidal thoughts really well in this movie.
